What does furlough mean?

February 10, 2021

If a business cannot maintain the current workforce because it has been severely affected by coronavirus (COVID-19), business owners can furlough employees (give employees temporary leave) and apply for a grant that covers 80% of their usual monthly wage costs.

Apprentices can be furloughed in the same way as other employees and they can continue to train whist furloughed.

Q: When will HMRC have the furlough scheme live?

A: Currently planned for Monday 20th April 2020

Q: How does apprenticeship training work whilst at home?

A: You can still complete training set by your training provider or college and CPD activities whilst at home. Use the time wisely and go back to work more knowledgeable to support your team!

Q: Who can I call to get advice as an employer or apprentice?

A: We have set up a helpline open from 8am - 8pm. Call us on 01332 371 666, and if we can't help you, we will connect you with the support you need.
